Magnus was a documentary director and series producer before founding Firefly, later re-named Dragonfly, with Nick Curwin in 2004.
The company became known for its distinctive factual programming and in particular the fixed-rig genre, pioneered with the BAFTA-nominated The Family and the BAFTA-winning One Born Every Minute (C4). Firefly was sold to Shine in 2007 and Magnus and Nick left in 2010.
Since setting up The Garden, Magnus' Executive Producer credits have included Perfume (BBC4), 24 Hours in A&E (C4), which won the RTS Award for Best Documentary Series, Seven Dwarves (C4), Inside Claridge’s (BBC2) and BAFTA-nominated Keeping Britain Alive: One Day in the NHS (BBC2). Since April 2013, The Garden has been owned by ITV Studios.
As Chief Creative Officer, John leads the creative and editorial side of the company, and is a Board Director alongside Nicola and Magnus.
Before joining The Garden in March 2018, John was Head of Specialist Factual at Channel 4, running a department whose output included Guy Martin’s Speed, The Secret Life of 4, 5 and 6 Year Olds, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Mutiny. John’s own commissions included Grayson Perry: All Man, SAS: Who Dares Wins, Walking the Nile, Our Gay Wedding: The Musical and D-Day: As it Happens, and he oversaw the channel’s programming on the discovery and reburial of Richard III.
John began his TV career at the BBC, working on Newsnight and in production and development for the Arts, Current Affairs and Factual departments. From there he moved to Channel 5 as Commissioning Editor, Factual (where his commissions included North Pole Ice Airport, Brain Hospital and Nazi Titanic) before joining Channel 4 in 2012.
Nicola joined The Garden in January 2012 as Head of Production to oversee all production and development output from budgeting stage through to delivery and beyond. She was promoted to the role of Managing Director in March 2018 and works closely with the core management team to support the smooth running of the company.
She came to the company from David Thompson’s Origin Pictures where, as Production Executive, she managed the business affairs of the company and all their projects, both in development and production for four years. Prior to that she worked with Thompson at BBC Films.
As Creative Director, Kate leads on new business across The Garden, serving as Executive Producer on key output (including recent Cutting Edge Bring Me Back to Life) and taking a senior role in company life.
Rising through the ranks since joining as Head of Development in 2010, Kate has delivered over 40 commissions during her time at the company. Her highlights include devising BBC TWO’s Skies Above Britain, BBC ONE’s Britain’s Spending Secrets and two upcoming series for Channel 4, plus working with the exec team to develop standout projects such as Keeping Britain Alive: The NHS In A Day, The Audience and Bedlam – all BAFTA-nominated, with the latter winning in 2014.
Kate was previously Head of Development at Mentorn, developing a range of successful output including Underage and Pregnant for BBC Three, An Idiot Abroad for Sky 1 and the BAFTA-nominated Cutting Edge film Katie: My Beautiful Face (which she also AP’d) – growing Katie Piper as Channel 4 talent in a follow-up series.
Kate started her TV career at BBC Birmingham - on the development team that created Trawlermen and Coast, and as part of the launch team for The One Show.
Emma joined The Garden at its launch in 2010 as series producer on Perfume (BBC4). Prior to that, she spent six years at Dragonfly where she produced the BAFTA-award winning first series of One Born Every Minute (C4); Goldsmiths - This is Modern Art and When Britain Went Bananas (BBC4); and co-produced the feature-length documentary Murder on The Lake (Grierson nominated) (BBC4).
At The Garden, Emma has executive produced Inside Claridge's and Hotel India (BBC2) and 24 Hours in A&E (Series 3) and 24 Hours in Police Custody (C4).
Zac joined The Garden in 2011 as an Executive Producer, before that Zac had been at a variety of indies and the BBC, producing and directing documentary films, including the BAFTA-winning Make Me Normal (C4), the ground-breaking animated documentary The Trouble With Love and Sex (BBC2) and the form-bending, Rich Kid Poor Kid (C4).
As an Exec at The Garden he has looked after a range of the documentary output for the BBC and Channel 4, including the wildly ambitious Keeping Britain Alive - The NHS in a Day; The Midwives; The Bank - A Matter of Life and Debt (BBC2); The Motorway; Inside Rolls Royce (C4); Professor Green - Living in Poverty (BBC3); and Extremely British Muslims (C4).
Amongst other new projects, he’s overseeing a feature documentary about Britain’s most lethal gun.
Spencer joined The Garden in June 2012 and has executive produced 100 hours of programming including The Midwives (Series 2) and The Motorway: Life in the Fast Lane (BBC2), On the Yorkshire Buses and 10,000 BC (C5) and three series of 24 Hours in A&E (C4).
Prior to that he worked as a freelance producer director on programmes such as Faking it, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and Wife Swap USA before series producing programmes for all the major broadcasters including Titanic: The Mission and Hidden Talent (C4).
Chloë joined The Garden in June 2015. As Head of Popular Factual she is responsible for developing new projects and executive producing programmes for the company; most recently the BBC Two series Skies Above Britain.
Chloë has extensive experience in developing and running flagship series having spent eight years at Shine Television and the BBC as Executive Producer. Her wide range of Executive Producer credits include Nursing the Nation (ITV), Jewish Mum of the Year (C4), Ashley Banjo’s Secret Street Crew (Sky1), Junior Doctors (BBC3) and two series of the much loved The Restaurant and Raymond Blanc’s: Kitchen Secrets (BBC2), which she devised. In 2015 she Executive Produced Sex in Class (C4), winner of the RTS South, Best Documentary.
Chloë started her career as a editor working on Cutting Edge and Dispatches before becoming a freelance Director of documentaries and popular formats. These include the BAFTA nominated That’ll Teach Em, RTS winning Supernanny, Wife Swap, Time Team and the BAFTA winning first series of Big Brother (C4).
Louise Doolan joined The Garden in August 2013, runs the development team and drives The Garden's new ideas slate.
Louise has extensive development and production experience, having been a Development Executive at Princess and Betty.
Her development credits include Ashley Banjo's Secret Street Crew for Sky One (which she went on to PD), Young, Bright and On the Right (BBC2), a Wonderland production, My Genius Brother and Me (BBC3) and Are You Fitter Than A Pensioner? (BBC3).
Debbie joined The Garden as Head of Talent in 2013. She was previously Talent Manager at Betty TV.
Debbie has over 15 years experience in television, starting out in-house at the BBC in the Specialist Factual department before working as an Assistant Producer on the BBC One flagship documentary strand One life and Building the Olympic Dream (BBC2). She then directed on The Apprentice (BBC1) and Seven Days (C4), before turning her hand to talent managing in 2011.
Laura looks after the 24 Hours in A&E and 24 Hours in Police Custody (C4) projects. Previously she worked as a Line Producer on these productions, as well as on Seven Dwarves and The Audience (C4).
Before joining The Garden, Laura production managed factual based programmes including the BAFTA-nominated Katie: My Beautiful Face and the Grierson-nominated The Lady and The Revamp (C4), working at Mentorn, Optomen and ITN Factual.
Lucy joined The Garden in July 2013 and has executive produced Superhospital and Virgin Atlantic: Up in the Air (ITV1), The Week The Women Came (C4) and TV, film, radio and digital documentary adverts for Cancer Research UK's award winning 2016 & 2017 campaign ‘Cancer is Happening Right Now.’
Her latest work is a global brand campaign for LEGO that will go live in 2018.
Before joining The Garden she was at Dragonfly TV for nine years, where she Series Produced One Born Every Minute, and My First Year (C4). She worked across a diverse range of programmes at Dragonfly, producing drama documentaries The Tony Martin Story (BBC1) and The Thieving Headmistress (BBC2), Autopsy: Life and Death with Gunther von Hagens (C4) and directing Auntie’s War on Smut (BBC4). Prior to joining Dragonfly she spent five years working at other leading indies and the BBC.
Flavia joined The Garden in 2011 working across development and production. She specialises in making observational documentaries, rig shows and factual dramas. Flavia developed and series produced the first series of the award winning 24 Hours in Police Custody (C4) and was the Executive Producer on the second series. Other credits at The Garden include The Kidnap Diaries (BBC4) and Murder on the Victorian Railway (BBC2).
Before joining The Garden, Flavia spent ten years working for a number of leading indies including Mentorn, Tiger Aspect and Ricochet. She spent four years working at Dragonfly where she series produced the third series of The Family (C4) and other factual dramas including, Canoe Man (BBC4), Escape from Auschwitz (C5) and The Antiques Rogue Show (BBC2).
Jessie joined The Garden in 2017, as an Executive Producer working on 24 Hours in Police Custody (C4) and other new development ideas.
She was previously at Dragonfly TV where she worked across a range of factual programming, including exec producing 10 part series Inside Birmingham Children’s Hospital(C4), Modern Times (BBC2) and Channel 4’s new directors' scheme First Cut.
Before that, Jessie was a BAFTA winning freelance director specialising in self-shot documentaries, often in challenging and sensitive situations. Her work includes Grierson nominated The Murder Workers (C4), the RTS nominated Fighting on the Frontline (C4); BAFTA nominated and Broadcast award-winning Katie: My Beautiful Face (C4); and Grierson shortlisted and Broadcast nominated The Hospital (BBC2).
During her television career Jessie has worked with the NHS, Social Services, the Metropolitan Police, Youth Offending Teams, the Ministry of Defence, The Crown Prosecution Service and the National Homicide Service.
Lucie joined The Garden as Series Producer of Channel 4's flagship fixed-rig series 24 Hours in A&E in January 2016. Over the next two years she helped to oversee the production and delivery of two, thirty-four episode series, most recently as an Executive Producer.
Prior to that, she spent five years as a freelance Director on a variety of factual productions, including the Grierson-nominated first series of 24 Hours in Police Custody, multiple series of 24 Hours in A&E, Superhospital (The Garden), Educating Cardiff (Twofour) and Confessions of a Teacher (Silver River).
As a Producer, she worked mainly in arts, history and specialist factual programming, filming all over the world for series such as Dan Snow's Filthy Cities (BBC2) Crucifixion (The Garden for C4) Rocket Science (Diverse Productions for BBC2) and Human Zoo (Diverse for C4) as well as on live OBs such as The BBC Proms and Anna Nicole: The Opera.
Liz first joined The Garden in 2011. Her credits include BAFTA-nominated series Keeping Britain Alive: A Day in the life of the NHS (BBC2), 24 Hours in Police Custody, Crucifixion, Inside Rolls-Royce (C4) and Virgin Atlantic: Up in The Air (ITV).
Liz started her career in-house at BBC Factual and has worked as a freelance Series Producer and Producer for a number of leading indies including Blast! Films, Twenty Twenty, Fresh One and Windfall Films.
With over 15 years’ experience in the industry, Melissa joined The Garden in 2017 initially as Line Producer on the fixed rig series 24 Hours in A&E before being promoted to Production Executive. She is responsible for overseeing a number of The Garden’s series including 24 Hours in A&E.
Before joining The Garden, Melissa Production Managed at numerous Indies including Minnow Films, Nerd, Silver River, Endemol, Outline and Blink working across a variety of ambitious series such as Spies, Hidden Talent and Jo Frost: Extreme Parental Guidance for Channel 4; National Lottery OB and Mad About the House for the BBC.
Jackie started her career at Granada Television over 20 years ago.
In October 2001 she left to become freelance and worked as a Production Manager with a variety of indies in the North West for all the major broadcasters.
She joined The Garden Productions in October 2011, since then she has worked on: The Midwives (Series 1 & 2) (BBC2), Baby Makers: The Fertility Clinic (C4), Kicked out Kids (C4), All Aboard! The Canal Trip (BBC4), All Aboard! Janine started her career in 1999 at Pearson Television on the travel series ‘Wish You Were Here…?’
Following time spent at Lion Television and Studio Lambert she joined The Garden Productions in 2013 and has Production Managed a number of productions including Hotel India (BBC2), All Abroad!
The Sleigh Ride (BBC4) Professor Green: The Truth About Weed and The Truth About Child Poverty (BBC3).
Hannah joined The Garden in 2014 and has worked across a variety of productions and in development.
Her credits at The Garden include Saved (ITV), 24 Hours In Police Custody (C4), Right Now (Cancer Research UK campaign), Professor Green: Living in Poverty (BBC Three) and Professor Green: The Truth About Weed (BBC Three).
Hannah trained as a journalist and started her career working as a researcher for indies before joining BBC Current Affairs where she pitched, developed and worked as Assistant Producer on the BAFTA and RTS Award winning factual drama: Murdered By My Boyfriend for BBC Three.
Scarlett first joined The Garden in 2012. Her credits include Keeping Britain Alive: A Day in the life of the NHS (BBC2), The Audience, 24 Hours in Police Custody and 24 Hours in A&E (C4).
Scarlett started her career working as a freelance Assistant Producer and a Researcher for a number of leading indies including Rare Day and Love Productions.
Sam joined The Garden in 2014. His credits include 24 Hours In A&E (C4), All Aboard! The Country Bus (BBC4), and as part of the development team he’s helped win numerous commissions from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
Before working at The Garden, Sam developed and produced programmes for a string of indies including Mentorn Media, Blast! Films and Raw TV. His previous credits include Saving Lives At Sea and The Town That Never Retired (BBC1), as well as Mary’s Silver Service (C4).
Rodney joined The Garden in 2010 as a part-time Production Accountant, he has worked across all of The Garden’s biggest projects, including 24 Hours in A&E and 24 hours in Police Custody.
Rodney has been a Production Accountant for over 15 years and has worked with numerous independent production companies across a wide range of genres.
Jordan joined The Garden in 2012 and works full time as an Accountant. As well as overseeing the day-to-day running of the company accounts, she has been the Production Accountant across numerous projects including more recent series of 24 Hours in A&E.
Jordan is currently studying to be CIMA qualified, which she hopes to complete in 2018.
Subo joined The Garden in 2018 to support the Head of Production team and Production Managers to bring programmes to broadcast, having worked in Music Copyright for 13 years.
Previously Subo worked for Channel 5’s Music Services team where she advised independent programme makers, the in-house creative team and the children’s strand, Milkshake, on music issues, clearances and track recommendations.
She also worked for Endemol, licensing music for numerous productions including The BAFTAs, Celebrity Big Brother, 8 Out of 10 Cats and UK Music Hall of Fame.
Subo started her TV career working for the documentary company ZKK where she production co-ordinated on a number of programmes for Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV.
Victoria joined The Garden in 2017 as Executive Assistant to company directors Magnus Temple, John Hay and Nicola Hill.
As well as managing the directors’ diary and travel arrangements, Victoria also oversees the office assistants and office management and organises any company events.
Victoria previous worked at Banijay Group as an events manager and executive assistant, having started her career in the industry at RDF Television.
Katrina joined The Garden in 2018 as Office Assistant and Personal Assistant to Creative Director Kate Collier. She is is responsible for the smooth day to day running of the office and is the first face you’ll see when you arrive at The Garden.
Katrina previously worked in advertising, running media accounts for Samsung, eBay and Expedia before taking the leap into television to pursue her ambition to make documentaries.
Prior to joining The Garden, Katrina has worked on Exodus: Our Journey Continues (KEO Films) and Flatpack Empire (Raw TV) both for BBC Two and various independent feature films.
Mitch joined The Garden in 2018 and is our technical assistant and runner, being an avid fan of all things technology from our IT to our kit management.
Previously a runner and studio manager to Shortlist & Stylist magazine, as well as sound recordist for Halfords Media team, his current focus is on the smooth running of the office production team and everything related.
Mitch is a keen videographer and co-manages a music collective in his spare time.
